Throes NYC gives urban-tinged alternative synth pop a moody, atmospheric treatment on their recent release, The Wires Out EP. The brainchild of multi-instrumentalist producer Michael Bozzo and vocalist Courtney Leo, Throes NYC blends harmonically rich, effects-laden instrumentals with passionately human vocals.
On “Always, Baby”, the pair slowly build towards moments of wide-ranging emotional inquisitiveness, as vocals ruminate on the complications of relationships and distorted electric guitar and progressively distorted drums bring everything to a close. Meanwhile, on “Something Chemical”, the duo offer a more direct hit of textured and atmospherically focused electronic pop, with a memorable chorus bolstered by its electronic bed.
The Wires Out EP by Throes NYC is a colourful and surprisingly uplifting release from a duo carving out a distinct space in the alternative pop scene.
